Social Justice

Each week, our worship ends with the words “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.” Fed with spiritual food, we go back out into the world to put our faith into action. Members of St. Anne’s love and serve God through activism and hands-on outreach with mission partners, both locally and across the globe.

The Social Justice Commission was launched in 2022 as part of a church-wide unification of existing groups under a new commission structure, which created easier ways for parishioners to find a place in the St. Anne’s Church family that brings personal fulfillment, while serving the Church and the community.

St. Anne’s has a number of ministries and initiatives that serve to advance racial justice, climate justice, and economic justice in our local, regional, and global communities. The Social Justice Commission serves as a coordinating council for our parish’s justice work and has in its membership representatives from the various justice ministries and programs.

Social Justice Vision Statement

  • We recognize that striving for Beloved Community and committing to reconciliation, healing, and justice calls us to address racial, social, economic, and environmental injustices.

  • We acknowledge that Christ's mission of love is incompatible with the white supremacism which has plagued our society for over four centuries and continues to cause untold violence, suffering, and oppression. As Christians, we are committed to advancing Christ's love against the forces of violence, indifference, and inaction which impede Christ's mission by perpetuating injustice.

  • We recognize the destruction to the people, culture and fabric of indigenous communities wrought by the Church-supported Doctrine of Discovery.

  • We believe that the Earth is a beautiful, fragile gift of God, and it is due to the selfishness, greed and thoughtlessness of humans that it is currently in peril.

  • We affirm the need to love, respect, and open our hearts and minds to our fellow human beings.

  • We commit to:

    • Listen, look, and reflect more deeply in order to take responsibility for liberating ourselves from our own biases.

    • Create opportunities to connect with, learn from and celebrate with communities of color, marginalized groups, and like-minded advocacy organization

    • Identify, support, and take actions to promote racial, social, economic, and environmental justice.
