Adult Forums: Episcopal Relief & Development, Places in the Heart, and Moth Storytelling

Episcopal Relief & Development

Sunday, November 15, we welcome Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) diocesan co-coordinators, Ms. Martha Gardner and The Rev. Jay Jordan, will be joining us to talk about the organization’s work. ERD, the compassionate response of the Episcopal Church to human suffering in the world, works with worldwide partners to alleviate hunger, create economic opportunities, respond to disasters, promote health, and strengthen communities. Martha and Jay will help us explore some of the ways we can put our faith into action, such as supporting the ministries of ERD through Gifts for Life and participating in the One Thousand Days of Love campaign, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children up to age 6.

Places in the Heart

Then on November 22, we start a series called “Places in the Heart.” Advent is a time to prepare for Christ’s birth, and we’ll do so this year in the familiar ways: making Advent wreaths, gearing up for our pageant, and planning our Lessons and Carols service. We also do it by looking within — to our hearts — to the places we might welcome the Christ child within.

Each week members of our Adult Formation team will lead us in conversation on a “place in the heart” where we might prepare for the hope and peace of this sacred season. Our themes include Belonging, Hope, Light, and Waiting.

Moth Storytelling

December 6 and 13 bring the return of our popular Moth Storytelling series. Based on the National Public Radio’s The Moth show, people share stories from the heart, without notes. Our theme this year draws on the theme of waiting in anticipation of Christ's birth; we’ll be invited to share a faith story about a time that it was "worth the wait." If you’re interested in being a storyteller, email Gary Poisson.
